First ever blog from Yorkshire Rose Farm

I have just finished the last out door farmers market for 2011, as I drove back home I decided that it was time to get down to doing all the indoor things that have been left behind over the summer and one of the things is to start to blog about what we are doing.

Three weeks ago we received a delivery of chicks, they are Red stars and they should be ready to start laying in the spring, at the moment they are inside with a heat lamp to keep them warm on these chilly Wisconsin fall evenings. Our plan is to make these hens gypsy's they are going to follow our sheep flock around as we want to find out is they will help to keep down the internal parasites that all farm animals get. We did a small study by letting our original hens out in to our Ram paddock through out the year and we have found that our Rams have less internal parasites, than the ewes which have been in the field, so we thought it would be good to see if making our new hens gypsy's with a mobile hen house would make any difference to our ewe's. When Dave gets the mobile hen house done I will post a photo.

We are going to the Hilldale indoor farmers market till Christmas, then we will get in to Lambing season ( Yeah Babe's) and I will not be doing farmers markets till the spring outdoor ones start.
